Petition asks for reduced sentence or pardon of Houston truck driver sentenced to 110 years
Not only did we send a letter to Gov. Jared Polis demanding justice in this case, but we also plan to lead a group of us to meet directly with the Governor on this case.
It is very alarming for us that a Latino is being treated in this way when others who are similarly found to be at fault are never held to these standards.

Domingo Garcia, the national president of LULAC, said the civil rights organization sent a letter to the governor of Colorado, Jared Polis, on behalf of Aguilera-Mederos, asking for a pardon or reduced sentencing.
"It was an egregious miscarriage of justice," Garcia said.
An online petition gained millions of signatures urging Polis to grant clemency.
"He got 110 years in prison on his first offense when it was clearly an accident," Garcia said. "It could happen to anybody. Your brakes go out. It was not intentional. It's not something that he was trying to do."
